Scene: Wednesday afternoon at home. Topher is putting together a crib. In walks Phoebe, a curly-haired almost five year-old. She has ratted her hair to gigantic proportions. There is a sparkly hair accessory carefully placed on the side.
Phoebe: Hey dad, do you like my hair?
Topher: WOW. Yeah. . . it's. . . really big.
Phoebe: Does it remind you of someone?
Topher: Um, should it. . . ?
Phoebe: You know, someone we know? Someone who's REALLY PRETTY?
Topher: Uh. . .I don't know?
Phoebe: SOMEONE REALLY PRETTY. . .
Topher: I give up. Who are you trying to look like?
Phoebe: CHARO! You know, from Pee-Wee's Christmas Special. She's so pretty.
Topher: Wow. Yeah, your hair looks just like hers.
Phoebe: Thanks!

This is the birth of a family legend.
Charo.
Cootchie-cootchie.
Come-on Chris, she DID say REALLY PRETTY!!
meca-leca-high-meca-merry-christmas!
She's going to start a paper route right now.
I knew all that Pee Wee would get you in trouble someday..
wait...she isn't almost 5. No way. I won't believe it. SHe is still 3, right? RIGHT?
Ricardo: Feliz Navidad, Pee-Wee! That means Merry Christmas in Spanish. Say it! Feliz Navidad...
Pee-wee: Feliz Nabeeblah...
Ricardo: Feliz Navidad...
Pee-wee: Feliz NaBeeBLAH...
Ricardo: Feliz Navidad!
Pee-wee: Feliz NABEEBLAH!
Ricardo: Right...
That makes me beyond happy.
I can't wait for Jooj to love Pee Wee as much as we do...
ps
Let's talk about your big but.
How sad. I thought she was going to say, "Mommy!" Ouch.
Following the trail to your blog was so worth it. I'm guessing a sequined gaucho number is on her Christmas list (who can blame her?)
Was this special actually on tv or do you guys OWN this PeeWee DVD? (can we borrow it?)
It's an old VHS tape recording Topher and his siblings watched as kids. I hesitate writing that, however, for fear one of them might come over and steal it. It's pretty much playing nonstop at our house right now, so if you want to borrow it you'll have to pry it out of Hugh's fat, sticky, surprisingly strong hands.
PW:If you don't have snow at your house, just use 20 lbs. of coconut shavings!
Love it Lis!
I could swer she was gonna say 'Mommy'too!
I'm sure Phoebe DID say "Mommy!" (have you seen the 7th Grade class photo?), but those Clarks have to make things funny, like including Charo!
